The issue
As an avid mountain biker and BMX enthusiast, I've experienced firsthand the excitement and joy that comes from hitting great dirt jumps. However, living in the City of Casey has posed a challenge for me and many others who share this passion. Sadly, I no longer have access to social media, which has hindered my ability to connect with fellow riders and find new locations. More critically, there aren't any quality dirt jumps within a 5km radius of the City of Casey that cater to our needs.
The City of Casey is known for its beautiful parks and recreational spaces, and it's home to a vibrant community of both mountain bikers and BMX riders. Yet, the lack of adequate dirt jumps is discouraging for those who wish to safely practice and improve their skills. This isn’t just a plea for leisure; it's about investing in community engagement, supporting an active lifestyle, and nurturing the talents of young riders.
Building good dirt jumps will not only give current riders a safe and well-maintained place to ride, it will also attract new riders to the sport, fostering more inclusivity and promoting physical fitness. The installation of these facilities can significantly reduce the wrongful usage of unsuitable public spaces for jumping, ensuring that everyone, including pedestrians and other park users, remains safe.
We've witnessed success stories from cities like Adelaide and Sydney, where building BMX and mountain biking facilities have led to increased tourism, better health outcomes, and enhanced community development. We believe Casey can lead by example too.
We urge the City of Casey to consider this invaluable addition to our community's infrastructure by investing in the development of quality dirt jumps. It's time the city recognized this demand and took decisive action to meet the recreational needs of its residents.
