Build & Convert more PickleBall Courts at Laguna Niguel Regional Park & Orange County CA

The Issue

  • Convert 3 Under-Utilized Tennis Courts into Dual-Use PickleBall/Tennis Courts.
  • Build 8 more New Construction Dedicated PickleBall Courts.
  • Keep Park Hours Open from 7am-9pm 365 Days per year.
  • Add shade Structures, benches and seating areas next to courts. Add walkways to courts, bbq center with 110 electrical outlets.

Orange County has a population of 3.2 million taxpaying citizens. There are 23 Orange County Public Parks, and ONLY 8 PICKLEBALL COURTS, ALL located at just one park, The Laguna Niguel Regional Park. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

With thousands of people playing Pickleball every day, the courts are massively overcrowded, 132 plus people waiting ridiculously too long just to rotate in to play just one game.

We urge the Orange County supervisors to take action to expand Pickleball courts at The Laguna Niguel Regional Park and throughout our Orange County Parks.

We ask the Orange County supervisors to convert the three underutilized tennis courts at the Laguna Niguel Regional Park into dual-use Pickleball and tennis courts.

Additionally, we request the county begin the planning and budgeting process to build at least eight more brand new dedicated Pickleball courts to accommodate the growing overwhelming demand.

We also ask the Orange County supervisors to convert the Carbon Canyon Regional Park and Clark Regional Park tennis courts into dual-use Pickleball and tennis courts. It is very inexpensive to convert a tennis court into a dual-use Pickleball and tennis court.

Finally, we ask that the park hours be extended from 7 AM to 9 PM all year long to ensure accessibility for working individuals who cannot make it down to the park before they close. We have lighted courts but cannot use them. Closing at 5:50 PM for 4 months of the year makes zero sense.

    Call to Action:

We urge all Orange County citizens to sign this petition to help us achieve our goal of expanding Pickleball courts in Orange County parks.

By signing and sharing this petition, we hope to get the attention of Orange County supervisors and demonstrate the high demand for Pickleball courts in our community.

Dear Orange County Supervisors,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing on behalf of the Pickleball Action Committee to request a meeting with all five of you. As you may know, Pickleball has become increasingly popular in recent years and our community is eager to see more opportunities for people to play this sport.

It is worth noting that Orange County has 3.2 million citizens and currently has only eight Pickleball courts in the entire Orange County Parks system, all of which are located at the Laguna Niguel Regional Park. This shortage of Pickleball courts is not enough to meet the overwhelming demand from our community.

We believe that converting underutilized existing tennis courts into dual-use tennis and Pickleball courts is an extremely inexpensive first step that could dramatically reduce the long wait times for Pickleball players. County and city governments across the country have already taken this step and seen the benefits. For example, a study conducted in King County, Washington found that converting underutilized tennis courts into dual-use courts not only reduced wait times for Pickleball players, but also increased usage of the courts overall. Similarly, a study in Maricopa County, Arizona found that converting tennis courts into dual-use courts was a cost-effective solution that provided more opportunities for Pickleball players and increased the overall use of the courts.

We have already made multiple attempts to address this issue by attending Orange County Parks Commissioner meetings and meeting with Richard Fink, the interim deputy Director of Orange County Parks. Despite these efforts, we have not been able to make any progress and have only received excuses from the Parks system about being understaffed and not having the money to make any changes. We are extremely frustrated with the lack of progress and the excuses that have been given by the Parks system, and we are hoping that with your support, we can find a solution that benefits everyone.

We believe that Pickleball is a wonderful sport that brings the community together, regardless of age or background. It builds community, friendship, and a sense of belonging, and we are desperately begging for your help to make it more accessible to everyone in Orange County.

Therefore, we ask the Orange County supervisors to take the following actions:

Convert the three underutilized tennis courts at the Laguna Niguel Regional Park into dual-use Pickleball and tennis courts.
Begin the planning and budgeting process to build at least eight more brand new dedicated Pickleball courts to accommodate the growing demand.
Convert the Carbon Canyon Regional Park and Clark Regional Park tennis courts into dual-use Pickleball and tennis courts. It is very inexpensive to convert a tennis court into a dual-use Pickleball and tennis court.
Extend park hours from 7 AM to 9 PM all year long to ensure accessibility for working individuals.
We believe that with your support, we can make a positive impact on our community by expanding Pickleball courts in Orange County parks. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet with all of you and discuss this matter in more detail. Our community is passionate about this issue and we believe that with your support, we can make a positive impact.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
