Build a Safe Skatepark in Alver Valley Park, Rowner

Build a Safe Skatepark in Alver Valley Park, Rowner
The Issue
Skating on boards and scooters is more than just a pastime for us here in Rowner, Grange and Alver Valley; it's a way of life. Unfortunately, without a dedicated space, we often face complaints from the adults in our community who are concerned about safety and disturbances. A safe and accessible skatepark could address these concerns while also supporting our active lifestyles.
A local skatepark would not just serve as a venue for skating; it would be a thriving community hub that encourages healthy, active living. It is well-documented that physical activity is crucial for our mental and physical health. According to Public Health England, regular exercise can reduce the risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease and cancer, by up to 50%, and lower the risk of early death by up to 30%.
Furthermore, a skatepark can significantly reduce anti-social behaviour. Studies have shown that providing young people with productive activities and spaces reduces instances of crime and anti-social conduct. Having a designated area to practice and perfect our skills would not only keep us safe but also discourage skating in unsuitable places, which often causes friction with residents.
Moreover, the skatepark would foster social connections among the youth. In a world increasingly dominated by digital interactions, a physical space dedicated to shared interests encourages face-to-face interactions and community building.
The creation of a skatepark in the Alver Valley, or any suitable space in Rowner, would benefit not just the young people seeking a place to enjoy their hobbies, but the community at large by reducing noise and disturbances in non-designated areas.
We urge the Gosport Borough Council to consider allocating space and to work with partners in finding funding for the construction of a community skatepark. This project would bring about positive change, fostering an inclusive and active community environment.
Please sign this petition to support the movement for constructing a safe, accessible skatepark in Gosport. Together, we can make a difference in our community.

Petition for a Skatepark in Rowner, Alver Valley Park, and Gosport
We, the young people of Rowner and Gosport, are asking for a skatepark in our neighbourhood that we can use whenever we want. A skatepark will give us a safe place to take part in the sports we love, like skateboarding, scootering, and BMX riding, and it might help us discover new passions. We believe having a skatepark will keep us active and provide a fun, safe space to hang out with friends.
We are requesting a skatepark that is:
- Easy to get to so that everyone in the community can access it.
- Close to shops and toilets for when we need to stay hydrated and take care of our needs.
This skatepark will be a great addition to Rowner and Gosport, bringing young people together and giving us opportunities to stay healthy, have fun and practise our skills. It will also help promote healthy lifestyles, reduce anti-social behaviour, and create a much-needed community space for young people.
We hope that you will support us in making this dream a reality!
Thank you for considering our request.
