Dear Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well and passionate as ever about our cause. I'm excited to share a significant update with you following my attendance at the City of Bakersfield's Multi-Modal Transportation and Safety Ad Hoc Committee meeting on the evening of April 9, 2024.
During this pivotal gathering, the Recreation and Parks staff presented a comprehensive overview of potential bicycle pump track and mountain bike facilities in our community. The main aim was to introduce the concept to the committee, facilitating a discussion, and allowing for a detailed review and inquiries about the project. You can download the presentation from the link below for you to view and understand the depth of the conversation that took place:
I'm thrilled to report that City Council members Bob Smith and Eric Arias showed genuine interest and enthusiasm toward the idea. A critical aspect of the discussion revolved around the financing of this project. We explored the potential for a private/public partnership with local industries, underscoring the necessity for our community to rally together for fundraising efforts.
The city staff presented several options for the pump track, varying in size and budget, ranging from $200,000 to $550,000. This range demonstrates the city's flexibility and willingness to accommodate this project within our community's financial capabilities.
I left the meeting feeling optimistic. The positive reception from the city officials and the detailed planning put into the presentation give me confidence that, regardless of the initial size or budget, the introduction of a pump track will prove its value and popularity. This success could pave the way for more tracks to be included in future city budgets.
Our journey is far from over, but with your continued support, we're closer than ever to making the pump track in Bakersfield a reality. The road ahead involves fundraising and collaboration with our local industry partners. I believe in our community's ability to come together for this cause that promises not only recreational benefits but also a significant positive impact on our city's landscape.
Thank you for your unwavering support. Let's keep the momentum going!
Warmest regards,
Ian
