The Issue

My son and I are passionate skateboarders who have found immense joy at the Sturtevant skate park. It's wonderful to see so many people using and enjoying the park, but often, space becomes a significant issue. On numerous occasions, the park has been too crowded for all the skaters, BMX, and scooter riders to have enough room for all to enjoy their sport safely and comfortably. We love the vibrant community of skaters and other riders, and it warms my heart to see so many young people engaged in such a healthy, fulfilling activity.

However, this growing interest has highlighted the need for even more dedicated space in our region. A large skatepark in the Caledonia area on the north side of Racine could offer exactly what our community needs—a spacious, well-designed arena for skateboarders, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts to practice their skills without interfering with one another. The park can be designed to converge into a common area where everyone can rest, socialize, and share their passion for these sports.

Such a facility would not only accommodate more riders but help keep our youth off busy roads and private properties, significantly enhancing their safety. It’s essential for us to provide our young people with a safe place to express themselves through sports like skateboarding and BMX riding.

The Caledonia area has ample space in the area parks and recreation spaces suitable for such a development, and this new skatepark could become an exciting and pivotal community hub. It would inspire the next generation of riders while expanding the recreational offerings in the region.

I urge you to support this initiative by signing our petition. Your signature can help make a difference in creating a safe, communal environment for our youth and ensure that future generations can enjoy, grow, and connect over their love for these energetic sports. Let’s come together to build a better, safer space for everyone to ride and meet new friends. Please sign this petition and help turn this vision into reality.
