Build a new multi-service community centre at Elmbank
The Issue
To: The City of Toronto, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, Parks Capital, and Councillor Vincent Crisanti
We, the residents, parents, guardians, and community members of North Etobicoke are calling on the City of Toronto to prioritize the construction of a new, modern, multi-service community centre with a swimming pool and dedicated toddler pool at the Elmbank Community Centre site.
Our Vision: A New Multi-Service Facility
North Etobicoke deserves a facility that offers much more than what a renovation or enhancement of the current centre could provide. Our vision is inspired by successful modern facilities such as York Recreation Centre, which provides a wide range of recreational and aquatic opportunities for residents of all ages.
We envision a new community centre that would offer the following:
Aquatic Centre: Six-lane, 25-metre indoor lap pool with a ramp, alongside a dedicated shallow leisure tot pool with water features and ramp and stair access. Including a family/universal change room.
Gymnasium and Fitness: Double-sized gymnasium, a weight room, an indoor running track and a fitness studio
Community Spaces: Multi-purpose rooms, a community kitchen, a youth space, and a specialized recording studio
Accessibility: Accessible parking spaces, accessible gym equipment, elevators, mobile water chairs, washrooms, change rooms, and pool ramps.
Programming: Children, adult, and senior recreational programs and activities
Meeting the Needs of a Growing Community and Investing in North Etobicoke's Future
North Etobicoke deserves a new multi-service recreation centre, not a renovation of the current Elmbank Community Centre. Our vision is inspired by successful models like the York Recreation Centre, which has become a hub of activity and inclusivity. We envision a community centre that can host aquatic programs for all ages, recreational and fitness programs, and a welcoming environment for families and community members.
Statistics show that access to recreational facilities is directly linked to improved mental and physical health outcomes, especially for children and young families. A community centre like the one we propose would support our neighborhood's growth in meaningful ways. It would offer safe, accessible spaces for youth engagement, senior activities, and community events, strengthening our sense of belonging.
Currently, the options available are limited and outdated, discouraging participation and engagement among residents seeking active lifestyles. By committing to constructing a new facility rather than simply upgrading the old, we can ensure that our community keeps pace with the needs of current and future generations. It will be a place where families can bond, make memories, and feel proud of their local amenities.
Help us make this vision a reality by asking the city to prioritize the construction of a new multi-service community centre at Elmbank Community Centre. Come together to support a project that will elevate the quality of life for everyone in North Etobicoke. Sign this petition to show your support for a new beginning and a stronger community.
