The Issue
Elizabethtown is a rapidly growing community, yet currently, our residents have to embark on a drive of over 45 miles to reach Louisville just to enjoy an ice-skating rink. This inconvenience not only creates a barrier to enjoying a healthy and fun activity but also signifies a gap in recreational facilities in our beloved town.
We propose the development of a multi-purpose facility that caters to both ice and roller skating right here in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Such a facility would serve as a welcoming 'third place' for our youth, providing them a safe environment for leisure and socialization away from home and school. Furthermore, it would promote health and wellness amongst our population throughout the year and could become a focal point for fostering community interaction.
Additionally, hosting local and regional skating events in Elizabethtown could boost our local economy by attracting sports tourism, benefiting local businesses and enhancing our town's visibility. Residents would enjoy easier access to sporting events without the necessity of traveling long distances.
We are calling upon the Elizabethtown City Council to commission a feasibility study to explore the potential for such a facility. The study would assess the proposed location, funding opportunities, potential economic impacts, and the overall benefits to our community.
Join us in advocating for the growth and enrichment of Elizabethtown. Sign this petition to support the construction of a multi-purpose ice and roller skating rink, offering an accessible and enjoyable recreational space for all. Let's bring skating home to E-town!
