We all loved the Build-A-Bear release of The Lord of the Rings bears. These beautifully designed bears with their clothes and clever foot designs were delightfully received by J.R.R. Tolkien’s fans, and sold out in its entirety within a day.

Here with this petition and on the correlating Instagram and Twitter accounts, we hope to encourage, perhaps convince, Build-A-Bear to also make bears for The Hobbit. In a series of design posts, we aim to show not only that The Hobbit films, though divisive, are just as valued as The Lord of the Rings, but that there is support for these bears and ready customers willing to buy these products.

The first posts deal with a base design for the Thorin bear, dubbed “Bearin Oakenshield”, a base design for the Bilbo bear, dubbed “Bearbo Baggins”, a Smaug to match Gollum, and an Orcrist to match Sting for Build-A-Bear’s original release . Each base design post will have the colors inspired for each bear, and the fur texture.

The next posts deal with suggested clothing designs, and then closer looks at each of the possible products!
