We are a parent/guardian group in Brunswick County, NC that shares the goal of ensuring our children receive the best possible education during this challenging time (COVID-19 response).

We support school choice and want families to have the option to choose in-person OR remote learning. Our goal is to implement the StrongSchoolsNC guidance from the NC Department of Health and Human Services in accordance with the Public Health Toolkit (K-12).

Currently Gov Cooper has elected to recommend Plan B (hybrid learning, with the option for parents to choose 100% online) but counties can implement a more restrictive plan if Covid case counts are above metrics.  Brunswick County currently has a positive case percentage of < 0.16%. 

On 7/21/20 the Brunswick County School (BCS) board surprised the community and selected Plan C (at least for the first 4.5 weeks) which is 100% virtual learning. No in-person option was offered.

We are asking our BCS board to implement the following:

-Reconsider choosing the all remote learning option (plan C) and begin school in person on 8/17/20.

or

-Push back the start of the school year to 8/31/20 and begin in-person then.  This time will help administration, teachers and the school board better prepare for in person learning.

-Continue to offer the remote only education option for any students and families that desire that. 

-Support our Brunswick County teachers and staff that are not yet comfortable to return to in class teaching.
