Hi everyone,
Thanks to all of you wonderful, caring and passionate people out there, I have finally received a reply from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) in regards to the E-Mails we have sent out the last 2 months. Did any of you get a reply as well?
Their response is:
"Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments regarding SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Diego.
In accordance with our standard process we will look into your concerns. If we find evidence that any AZA accreditation standards are not currently being met or maintained, we will work with the institution to make sure this is addressed."
- To me, that sounds just like what BA did when they first heard of our petition. Acknowledge the concerns but deny that there is an issue. AZA have two options based on that reply:
1) Deny that SeaWorld violate their standards [there is clear evidence that SeaWorld violate some of AZA's standards (for example, lying to the public and misrepresenting facts about the animals in their care) so this option would backfire on AZA]
2) They may get in touch with SeaWorld, raise the outlined issues and get promised that "things will change".
I immediately replied back to AZA saying that SeaWorld is unwilling to change their business model and that no conversation with them over their facilities' standards or animal treatment will lead anywhere as they are simply unwilling to change how they do business. Empty promises: they give those on a regular basis.
For now, we will have to wait and see what AZA's decisions is. I will keep you posted about this.
Thank you again every single one of you for writing to AZA. It has, at least, prompted a response!
All the best,
Kathleen
