Dear Friends, As I've mentioned in the last update, we are planning to run an event in Germany called "Wild Dolphins" that aims to educate adults and kids about dolphins in captivity and the many threats our finned friends face in their natural habitat. We plan to invite schools in particular and run kids workshops where ocean trash is turned into art, offer screenings of Blackfish, The Cove, Racing Extinction etc., and offer a variety of talks about captivity, environmental pollution and cetacean cultures. Education is the key to change! We've seen that here in the UK when a public outcry about captive dolphins led to the "Into The Blue" campaign that ended dolphin captivity in the UK in 1991. In the USA, we've also seen a public outcry against dolphin captivity, thanks to the movie Blackfish highlighting the plight of orcas. Now, there are multiple legislative proposals that would outlaw cetacean captivity in parts of America. We hope to bring about a similar movement against dolphin and whale captivity in Germany with our event Wild Dolphins. If we can educate as many people as possible, we might also be able to expand our work to lobbying politicians to work on legislation changes that would make it illegal to keep whales and dolphins in captivity.
