Dear Supporter
My organisation, BARAC UK, is, part of the BME Lawyers 4 Justice Group (which is a sister group to BME Lawyers 4 Grenfell, we are founding members of both groups).
We have organised a conference on Saturday 4th of August, focused on a Windrush legal strategy. I am one of the speakers at the conference.
I have included more details below & a link in case you are able and would like to attend.
I realise this won't be practical for everyone wgo has signed my petition.
Event description
We are concerned that the government is failing to live up to its promises in relation to providing justice to the Windrush victims. We believe that better discussion and coordination among those working to secure justice is absolutely critical at this time. We believe the government is hoping that this issue will fade away during the summer. We determine to make sure this issue stays at the top of the political agenda.
This event is targeted at legal advocates and campaigning organisations working on the issue of Windrush. We are seeking to discuss better coordination around a potential legal class action.
We want to facilitate and support clearer communications around the experience of Windrush victims in seeking to access Home Office support.
We will also explore campaign objectives around ensuring the government is held to its promises in relation to Windrush victims.
You will hear from speakers with legal expertise, in addition to those campaigning on the ground around the broader connected issues of citizenship and residency. We will be discussing issues such as the compensation scheme consultation, issues in relation to immediate financial assistance to the victims, the issue of legal aid, in addition to assessing what legislation would need to change, in order to ensure this never happens again.
The conclusions of this roundtable, will be fed into a national Windrush conference in Nottingham, the date for which will be set, by the time this event takes place.
Please assist us by promoting this event as far and wide as possible. For more infor contact me; lee-jasper@live.com

In addition I thought it worth sharing this article from last December about pilots in Germany who have prevented deportations in their flights. Whilst they are not permitted to refuse passengers on moral grounds they can on health & safety grounds, so they have argued that keeping people being deported in their flights would cause distress to them & other passengers. I am sure you will join me in applauding those pilots.

British Airways can do better and really needs to listen to voices of over 50500 of us & counting.
