Bristol Council Divests Funds from Companies Supporting Genocide in Gaza

Bristol Council Divests Funds from Companies Supporting Genocide in Gaza
The Issue
Israel’s ongoing assault on Palestinians in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, including many children. Over 70% of Gaza's buildings and infrastructure have been destroyed, and a famine is imminent due to Israel's blockade.
Collectively, Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds invest over £4.4bn in companies complicit in Israel's violations of international law. This includes companies active in Israel's illegal settlements on stolen Palestinian land, and companies supplying Israel with weapons and military technology used in unlawful violence check link for more information
Councils must refrain from procuring from, or investing in, companies enabling these acts, including arms suppliers and financial institutions.
We ask the Bristol Council to:
1- Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and for the UK to end its arms trade with Israel.
2-Divest any Council-managed funds, including Local Government Pension Scheme funds, from companies complicit in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians. Ensure the Council does not enter procurement contracts with these companies.
3-Divestment: Completely divest from all such companies and bonds, providing a clear timescale for divestment and quarterly progress reports.
4- Investment Strategy: Update the Investment Strategy Statement to commit to excluding companies that enable or profit from human rights violations, with regular reviews of fund holdings to ensure compliance.
5- Transparency in Strategy : Publish statements regarding changes to the pension fund strategy and disinvestment programme.
6- Procurement: Boycott Barclays and other suppliers complicit in human rights violations. Exclude these companies from tendering for council contracts.
7-Raise the Palestinian flag above the Council building as a symbol of solidarity.
