Replace Edward Colston statue with a statue of Dr. Paul Stephenson
The Issue
Today, the statue of slave-trader Edward Colston was rightly torn down, and promptly dumped in the harbour waters in Bristol, United Kingdom.
I propose that a far more admirable figure is chosen as a replacement statue, that of local campaigner: Dr. Paul Stephenson.
The leader of the successful 1963 Bristol Bus boycotts, Dr. Paul has continued to be a committed campaigner throughout his life, and Bristol proudly calls him a citizen.
Use this moment to cast aside the wrongful previous celebration of a slave-trader, and celebrate someone far more deserving.
