Our neighborhood is the only one in the area still stuck with outdated, unreliable internet. We face constant frustrations like slow speeds during peak hours, data caps that limit our usage, and occasional outages—problems no community should endure. These issues don’t just affect our ability to stream shows or use smart home devices; they impact remote work, online learning, and staying connected with family and friends.

Neighbors have shared their struggles with hitting data caps mid-month and experiencing buffering during essential activities. This isn’t just inconvenient—it’s unacceptable.

For those who don’t know much about fiber internet or are unsure about singing, I want to highlight the advantages of fiber optic internet. Fiber optic internet, often shortened to fiber internet, uses light signals to transmit data through thin glass or plastic fibers. This allows for faster and more consistent speeds than traditional cable internet, which relies on older copper wiring. While 5G internet offers mobility and competitive download speeds, it relies on radio waves, which environmental factors like distance from a tower or building materials can impact. Both cable and 5G speeds can slow down during peak usage hours due to shared bandwidth, fiber provides dedicated lines, ensuring consistent performance even during high-demand times. Fiber’s wired connection delivers unmatched reliability, speed, and low latency, making it the gold standard for internet connectivity.

According to a 2023 study by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), neighborhoods with access to fiber internet report speeds that are up to 10 times faster than cable. For example, nearby communities with fiber report significant improvements in streaming quality, smoother online classes, and faster downloads, even during peak usage times. Fiber offers greater reliability, with fewer outages and no throttling. On average, households with fiber save 20-40% on their monthly bills compared to cable plans with similar speeds, while also enjoying unlimited data (except Cox Internet). Overall, fiber provides better value and service, making it a more attractive option than traditional cable.

Wyyerd and AT&T have the ability to bring fiber to our area, but we need to show them there’s strong demand in our neighborhood.
