This school year, students at Grayson high will not have wifi for personal devices like cell phones. "What's the problem?" you may ask. Teenagers off their devices and paying more attention to class sounds great! Except that doesn't really stop student distractions. Students will just download things for offline use to distract themselves. Many still will use the wifi on the school issued computers to distract themselves in the same ways. This isn't just about distractions though; this is also about education. Within the first 3 days of school there were over 500 schedule changes. It would have been a lot easier for students to realize these changes using their mobile devices at school, instead of finding out late at home. Many students don't even think about school at home, so they will never find out about their schedule changes and will miss designated classes. Thats not even to mention the safety concerns that having no wifi causes. Most of the school doesn't get reception so you can't call or text without wifi. If a fire, tornado or even school shooting were to happen students would have no way to contact anybody. This would include first responders, and parents or guardians. Also, this stops students from knowing what is happening in the outside world which can be very important during an emergency.

This is where I ask, all students, all members of the community, all parents of students who go to Grayson High School to sign this petition! We need wifi as students, learners and growing young men and women. Don't let Dr. Walker walk on us!
