The Issue

In March, the Tigers emailed fans a survey asking if they wanted Tiger Stadium in the name "to honor its historical significance."

Then, at the Sept. 21 name announcement, after speaking on Detroit's baseball history and community, they named it Fifth Third Park.

Public backlash followed, much of it around leaving Tiger Stadium out of the name and putting the sole focus on a corporate bank with a hard-to-pronounce name.

👉  To honor the city of Detroit and the history of its baseball team, we ask that Fifth Third and the Detroit Tigers add "Tiger Stadium" to the ballpark's name.

Ideas for alternative names:

  • Fifth Third Park at Tiger Stadium
  • Tiger Stadium presented by Fifth Third

Other professional stadiums use this format, including:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers: UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium
  • Denver Broncos: Empower Field at Mile High
  • Kansas City Chiefs: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium

The new name doesn't take effect until the 2027 season, so Fifth Third and the Tigers still have a real chance to make this right with the fans and the Detroit community at large, all while keeping their name on the stadium.
