What is The Book of Bill?
For all of you still living in the world of Gravity Falls, Alex Hirsch has brought back his most nefarious of villains – Bill. The Book of Bill is Bill’s chance to tell his story, from his evil origin to an interactive array of puzzles and ciphers, all brought to you by the mastermind himself. This is Gravity Falls as you’ve never seen before.
Inside, Bill sheds light on his bizarre origins, his sinister effects on human history, the Pines family's most embarrassing secrets, and the key to overthrowing the world (laid out in a handy step-by-step guide). This chaotic and beautifully illustrated tome contains baffling riddles, uncrackable ciphers, lost Journal 3 pages, ways to cheat death, the meaning of life, and a whole chapter on Silly Straws. But most importantly, The Book of Bill is deeply, deeply cursed.
Alex Hirsch, #1 New York Times bestselling author, resuscitates this infamous villain and invites fans to a Bill's eye view of the Gravity Falls universe. There are many who believe this book is too dangerous for human hands. But if you can't resist, just know this: Once you make a deal with Bill, it's not so easily undone...
Introduction
The Book of Bill is the latest book Gravity Falls book from Disney that became available for pre-order on December 15th, 2023 from five different retailers: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Bookshop, and Indigo.
The book has four different versions:
- Standard hardcover - All retailers
- Standard hardcover signed by Alex Hirsch - Books-A-Million
- Barnes & Noble exclusive (16 bonus pages) - B&N
- Barnes & Noble exclusive signed by Alex Hirsch - B&N
What is the problem?
The big issue here is that Barnes & Noble DOES NOT ship to a WHOPPING 64 countries! This means that no one in those 64 countries could pre-order the EXCLUSIVE B&N edition or the signed copy from there.
But while B&N ships to at least some other countries than the US, Books-A-Million (which sold the regular book signed by Alex Hirsch) doesn't ship to anywhere outside the US!
None of this is a problem if you want the regular edition, of course, as that is available on Amazon and ships to pretty much anywhere. But if you wanted the signed copy or the version with 16 bonus pages, you would've had to get someone in the US to ship it to you.
My Story
Two hours after the tweet announcing the book went live, I immediately clicked the link to the B&N website, ready and eager to pre-order my first signed copy of something. I had already missed out on the Gravity Falls Journal #3 signed copies and blacklight editions back when they released as I was late to watching Gravity Falls, and I was a child with no money.
Gravity Falls is one of my favorite pieces of media, so I was really excited to get an official book signed by the creator of the show himself, Alex Hirsch. Now imagine my surprise when I go to select my country. I scroll, and scroll, and scroll, until I get to where it's supposed to be. But it isn't there.
The obvious next step was to make sure they actually shipped to my country, so I looked it up, and surprise surprise, they didn't!
I was, unfortunately, at an event when the book became available, so I couldn't really do much other than give up and look into it more later.
I couldn't find a solution.
But there came a shining light at the end of this dark, endless, tunnel. In a server I'm in, someone had sent the tweet announcing the book. I proceeded to complain that me and a lot of other Europeans wouldn't be able to get the signed copies, or the exclusive B&N version, as BAM doesn't ship internationally and B&N only ship to select countries.
I was then DMed by a friend from that server, who offered to order a signed copy and ship it to me, which I was a bit extatic about. But, as it turns out, that flame of hope was snuffed out by the terrible news that the signed copies had been all sold out.
I became upset, sad, and a few tears ended up running down my face. That's when I came up with the idea of making this petition. I don't care what little chance this would give us to get those exclusive and/or signed copies, but when the choice is between 0% chance and above 0% chance, I'll take the latter.
Why does this matter?
This is incredibly unfair to us European fans. The signed copies have already sold out but there was no easy way for us to order them and have them shipped. While for the exclusive B&N copies, unless you have a friend who lives in the US and is willing to ship it to you, there is no way to get it.
We have the money.
We're willing to spend it.
Please... let us throw our money at you, Disney! And you, Barnes & Noble!
As for you, Alex. I understand making more signed copies available would mean more work for you, but I beg of you to consider it. We're just as big fans of you and the show as those in the US, and I believe it's silly to restrict our access to something we'd be willing to spend our money on.
I have never made a petition before, so forgive me if this is a bit rough. I'm honestly just really devastated right now, and this is the only way for me to make some hope.
