On March 3rd, 2022, a reddit user by the name of u/NudeDudeUWaterloo posted a challenge on the UWaterloo subreddit: If the post reached 500 upvotes by 11:59pm EST on March 14th, the Nude Dude himself would run naked through SLC at 2pm EST the following day.

Nude Dude, however, did not deliver.

This came as a shock and disappointment to the UWaterloo community. Hundreds of students gathered in the SLC food court on the day of the Nude Dude Run to witness the event.

As the time drew closer to the scheduled run, the crowd buzzed with anticipation. Minutes before 2pm, a countdown was started. Everyone watched with bated breath, yearning to catch a glimpse of the Nude Dude, a man who would embody the spirit of the University of Waterloo with his daring feat. 

2pm came. There was no Nude Dude in sight.

The crowd shuffled around awkwardly, still waiting. "Maybe Nude Dude was running late?" they wondered. "What if he got caught in traffic? Or something happened?"

The onlookers waited patiently. 2:10 came and went, with no Nude Dude around. At 2:19 pm, u/NudeDudeUWaterloo posted a reddit update: campus police allegedly shut down the run.

According to bystander reports, nothing of the sort happened. No arrests were made, no one was escorted off campus. Campus police had indeed gathered around the food court...but there was no one for them to detain. How could campus police shut down the run when they didn't know who to stop?

Nude Dude promised but did not deliver. I am calling on my fellow University of Waterloo students to sign this petition to bring Nude Dude to justice. Something must be done about this, we cannot let a disappointment of this magnitude be forgiven and forgotten. We must hold Nude Dude accountable.
