BRING MUSICAL.LY BACK!

The Issue

Musical.ly was the successor to TikTok. It was shut down in 2018, since ByteDance bought the platform and turned it into the aforementioned, TikTok.

Ever since TikTok started, the internet has become more of a hateful place. Things like body shaming, homophobia and harassment have become normalised, while the people of Musical.ly were openly against these things. Musical.ly was a very peaceful platform with a kind community, but TikTok is quite the opposite.

Trends lasted longer, people didn’t care what others looked like or wore, they were just having fun. On TikTok, trends last no longer than a few weeks before they die out and people are called “cringe” for trying them out. For example: the Roblox game, Dandy’s World.

The game is about cartoonish characters called “toons” running around broken down facilities. The aim of the game is to collect ichor from machines, which can be used as in-game currency to buy new skins and toons. During the gameplay, you have to avoid being attacked by darker versions of the toons called “twisteds”.

A side of TikTok called “slimetok” has been continuously hating on this game and the players. This hate has gone as far as people sending horrible threats to Dandy’s World fans. These threats are disguised as “🔑” and other emojis that are too vile to even explain, but they have awful meanings behind them.

It’s sad to think that something Musical.ly would be against is so normalised on a modern version of the app. Peace and love has been turned into hatred and anger, so what happened? The answer is unclear. Part of Musical.ly’s slogan was actually “live with passion”, but TikTok has thrown that away. If we can’t bring Musical.ly back, we could at least create another app that’s identical to it. Please sign this petition to bring back hope for humanity’s kindness, we were so much happier back then than we are now. Thank you for reading.
