For too long, the citizens of Wausau, Wisconsin have suffered in silence. They have gathered on the square, summer after summer, wondering if this would be the year. The year that central Wisconsin finally gets a little bit of… everything.

That year is now. That everything is Lou Bega.

Lou Bega — world-renowned German entertainer, mambo maestro, and the only man alive who has successfully rhymed his way through an entire woman’s name bracket tournament — has performed for audiences across the globe. Paris. Berlin. Budapest. But never Wausau. And frankly? That’s numero five on our list of Wisconsin’s greatest injustices.

This is not just a concert request. This is a mambo mandate. A bega-seeching of our local event organizers. A cry from the heart of a community that has waited long enough, danced alone long enough, and listed enough names in their heads without professional guidance.

Wausau’s Concert on the Square is a treasured civic institution — and what better way to honor that tradition than by bringing in a man who has dedicated his life to the sacred art of counting to five? We are not asking for much. We are asking for a little bit. Several little bits, in fact. A little bit on the square. A little bit under the stars. A little bit in the heart of every Wausauite who ever deserved better.

Lou, the cheese is here. The brats are ready. The people of central Wisconsin have been trumpet-ing your name for decades and it is time — it is time — to answer the call.
