Bring Gaga Ball and Four Square to Jefferson Park

Bring Gaga Ball and Four Square to Jefferson Park
The Issue
The other day, I visited Jefferson Park with my husband and our 8-year-old son, armed with a ball and a simple piece of chalk. We drew a makeshift Foursquare court on the pavement, ready for a fun afternoon together. Before long, kids from around the neighborhood—and even a few playful adults—joined in. People of all ages played together, reminding me just how powerful and joyful shared play can be.
That experience sparked a realization: Jefferson Park is missing something essential—a dedicated space for interactive, recreational games that bring our community together through play.
This petition seeks to add two exciting and inclusive games to Jefferson Park:
- 2 Permanently painted Foursquare courts on the pavilion concrete
- A wooden Gaga Ball Pit near the playground area. 20 feet in diameter, 30 inches high, octagon shaped with 2 cut out openings.
- Plus a bin to store balls for both games.
Why these games?
Both Foursquare and Gaga Ball are simple, active, and community-centered. They encourage movement, cooperation, and laughter—no screens, no barriers, just pure fun.
What is Gaga Ball, and why add a Gaga Pit?
Gaga Ball is a fast-paced, inclusive game that welcomes players of all ages and abilities. It’s easy to learn, safe to play, and requires only a ball and a small enclosed pit. Once built, it needs minimal upkeep but offers endless hours of entertainment and exercise. It’s the kind of activity that builds friendships, confidence, and community spirit.
Why this matters for Union Hill and Jefferson Park:
Our neighborhood deserves a park that not only exists, but truly engages its residents. Spaces like a Foursquare court and Gaga Ball Pit would invite families and friends to connect, play, and stay active together. These additions would help transform Jefferson Park into a vibrant hub for outdoor recreation and social connection—something our growing community deeply values.
Playgrounds and recreation areas aren’t just for fun; they shape the way children learn, grow, and build relationships. By investing in playful, inclusive spaces, we’re investing in the future of Union Hill.
Join us in making this vision a reality.
Sign this petition to support the addition of a Foursquare court and Gaga Ball Pit at Jefferson Park. Together, we can create a welcoming space where children, families, and neighbors can connect, laugh, and play for years to come.
Your voice and your signature matter—let’s enrich our park and strengthen our community, one game at a time.
