Bring Fitness Outdoors: Support a Calisthenics Area for Our Community!

The Issue

For years, Moncus Park has been an important place for the people of Lafayette to gather, walk, and spend time outdoors. It is a space enjoyed by families, dog walkers, and neighbors looking for fresh air and relaxation. However, there is no dedicated area where residents of all ages can exercise freely using outdoor fitness equipment.

We propose building an outdoor calisthenics park at Moncus Park. This park would include pull-up bars, parallel bars, and other simple but effective workout stations suitable for all fitness levels. Giving Lafayette residents access to free, safe spaces for physical activity supports healthier lifestyles and benefits the entire community.

Research supports the positive impact of outdoor exercise areas. Studies show that people who exercise outside tend to stick to their routines longer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also connects regular physical activity with lower risks of chronic illness, better mental health, and a longer life expectancy. An outdoor calisthenics park would encourage more residents to be active and healthier.

Adding this fitness area at Moncus Park would also bring the community closer together. It will be a place where neighbors can meet, share healthy habits, and support each other’s wellness goals. This would strengthen Lafayette’s sense of community and promote a culture of health.

We ask Executive Director JP MacFadyen and the Moncus Park Board of Directors to consider this important addition. Your support can make Moncus Park a stronger, healthier resource for all Lafayette residents.

By signing this petition, you join a growing community voice calling for better public health and fitness opportunities right here at home. Together, we can help create a healthier future for Lafayette.
