Bring FFA to LHS: Empowering Students for a Bright Future

Bring FFA to LHS: Empowering Students for a Bright Future
The Issue
Dear Lewiston High School Administration,
As a concerned student, I am writing this petition to advocate for the implementation of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program at our esteemed institution. FFA is not just limited to students aspiring to be production farmers; it offers invaluable opportunities for individuals pursuing diverse career paths such as teachers, doctors, scientists, business owners, and so much more.
Growing up in Lewiston surrounded by agriculture professionals and witnessing the impact of 4H on my peers' lives, I have come to realize that our school community would greatly benefit from having FFA as an integral part of our curriculum. Here's why:
1. Developing Essential Life Skills:
FFA provides students with comprehensive education beyond traditional academics. By participating in FFA activities and events, students learn vital life skills such as leadership development, public speaking abilities, teamwork collaboration, problem-solving techniques, and time management skills. These skills are essential for success in any chosen career path.
2. Nurturing Responsibility:
Through hands-on experiences like raising livestock or managing agricultural projects within FFA programs, students develop a strong sense of responsibility towards their work and their community. This fosters character-building traits like accountability and dedication that will serve them well throughout their lives.
3. Expanding Career Opportunities:
According to recent studies conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers highly value candidates who possess transferable skills gained through extracurricular activities like FFA participation. The diverse range of careers associated with agriculture opens doors for future opportunities in fields such as environmental science, biotechnology research, sustainable farming practices advocacy or even entrepreneurship.
4. Academic Achievement Boost:
Research conducted by the University of California has shown that students engaged in agricultural education programs tend to outperform their peers academically across various subjects. FFA's emphasis on practical application of knowledge and experiential learning methods has been proven to enhance critical thinking abilities, problem-solving skills, and overall academic performance.
By bringing FFA to LHS, we can provide our students with a well-rounded education that equips them for success in the real world. The benefits extend beyond just agriculture-related careers; they empower individuals to become leaders, innovators, and responsible citizens in any field they choose.
I kindly request the Lewiston High School Administration to seriously consider implementing FFA as an integral part of our curriculum. Let us join thousands of schools across the nation who have already recognized the immense value this program brings to their students' lives.
Together, let's empower our future generation with the skills and opportunities they deserve!
Sincerely,
Lyrica Peterson
