My new Intention for my precious Angel is:
"Our Intention is that Deborah can immediately, completely and permanently raise her fingers and thumb to give consent to discharge to her mother's home"
In the few days following the doctor’s decision to take to remove all blood pressure medication from Deborah’s daily schedule, she was able to hold my hand and exert pressure with her thumb. You cannot begin to imagine the joy of feeling life in those precious fingers- the exquisite happiness as she gave me this beautiful gift – how much I miss the hugs she gave so freely.
Come home angel, just come home!!!!
But then everything changed again.
Deborah has now been put on a new drug regime and she is once again drugged up to the hilt, each new drug having the most awful consequences for her. She is given a toxic chemical mixture of EIGHT medications all at the same time first thing in the morning, left in this dazed and terrified state and gradually begins to come to mid to late afternoon.
For someone with the sensitivities to chemicals that Deborah has, this is the equivalent of taking a glass, adding a neat tot each, of gin, vodka, brandy, rum, wine and expecting her NOT to feel absolutely drunk and drugged as a consequence.
Yesterday - as a direct consequence of this new drug routine - her eyes were back to the worst I have seen them. Her eyelids are again swollen, discoloured, her eyes are so inflamed the cornea has a "Blister" on one side, her nose was swollen, her fingers and joints are swollen. What the consequences are for internal organs I can only speculate…………….
Since Deborah’s eyes first became inflamed in February, she has been prescribed a variety of eye drops, gels or ointments – all of which have worsened the situation and led to ongoing deterioration of her eyes to a point now where the Cornea is damaged. According to the senior Opthalmologist it will require Cornea graft surgery to correct this damage. He also recently commented that there is Epitheal damage to Deborah’s eyes.
In the past eleven months, eye prescription for ILUBE, VISCOTEARS, OCUFRESH, VISUXL GEL, HYLO NIGHT, CLINITAS GEL, GEL TEARS, CLINITAS, SODIUM HYALURONATE, XAILIN GEL have all been tried and failed.
Surely any intelligent person would ask the question – if TEN of these supposedly safe and effective drops have failed to bring relief and improvement, and in fact each have made Deborah’s eyes worse, another solution must be found? Other questions MUST be asked.
She has been heartlessly used as a guinea pig as one experimental formula after another has failed to alleviate the problem, but giving Deborah so much pain in the interim.
As further proof of the damage caused to her eyes, both eyes have developed a thick film over the Irises which now have a Blue rim around the edges. Deborah’s eyes have always been Hazel in colour. What appears to be a blood patch in the Left eye is clearly visible. I think she has very little, if any, sight left.
At one time Allevyn Life Dressings were used to close Deborah’ eyes at night. They are made using Polyurethane. The advice given by the manufacturer is to avoid contact with mucous membrane and eyes. Sensitivities include: Fever, muscle aches, headaches, dry cough, chest tightness and difficulties breathing.
On another occasion Jello net, a skin abrasion and burn dressing was prescribed for use under the tape used to close her eyes. It is a soft paraffin dressing and left a coating of paraffin on the surface of the eye. It is beyond understanding why any sane person would think an oily burn dressing should come in to contact with Deborah’s eyes without thinking of the acute discomfort this would bring.
This has happened despite numerous conversations in which the various consulting Opthalmologists have been informed by me that Deborah has strong reactions to any chemical formulas and her preference has always been to natural solutions.
Although I have asked to be present when any opthalmologist visit is planned, I was not informed that another visit was scheduled. Last week a new prescription for drops called ILUBE was issued. Deborah has had these before and the result was disastrous for her.
The doctors tell me that they are unable to over ride the opthalmologist’s “professional” opinion and remove the prescription.
This means that Deborah will be subjected to even more Pain until I can try once again to plead with the Opthalmologist not to insist on the new prescription and to continue as before with only Naturopathic drops. I was further told on Friday if I "harrass" the doctors or try to intervene in treatment, I WILL be banned from the hospital.
I have tried speaking to her Consultant and he will not engage with me!
Perhaps the CEO of Great Western Hospital, Jon Westbrook, will respond to Deborah’s plight if each of the signatories to this petition email him and very politely and most sincerely, ask for his immediate intervention to save Deborah from further emotional and physical pain, to finally bring this terrible saga of neglect inflicted on my helpless daughter to an end?
Please do not be rude, but write from the very depths of your heart, as if it was YOUR daughter who is being treated in this demeaning and degrading way. His email address is jon.westbrook@nhs.net
