BeFri (mainly titled after the left half of a broken heart pendant/necklace) is one of Pixar's originally planned original features for this decade that was put into production in 2020 and got cancelled in late 2023 according to the Wall Street Journal after a screening with Disney executives lead to CCO Pete Docter scrapping the project from ever seeing the light of day.

The plot from what is known centers on Birdie and Jules, two girlie besties that have always been best friends for who knows how long, but that long-lasting bond is put at risk when a squad of magical powerful women invite Jules to join their team, seeing her potential and of course Birdie won't allow this, but eventually the two obviously go through a breakup and either are unawareingly free (hence "befri/be free") or have to reunite somehow, while a dastardly Hope Eater lurks to ruin and destroy everything.

Now, after word got out and before some footage and concept art leaked online, people all over the internet were initally agonizing over such a loss of a project after being described to be focused on Kristen Lester's personal teenage experience of "a platonic breakup" and feature Sailor Moon-esque characters.

When the footage leaked, reception was mixed, some fell in love with what was shared and others...not so much or outright despised it, but those that did are desperately wanting the studio to either bring back what could have been a very relatable cinematic piece or let another animation studio pick it up or revive it.

BeFri in my opinion HAS to see the light of day, it had potential and it's a darn shame that it all got thrown away,

Some people NEED or WANT to see this film or plot actually see that light of day...
