Dear Microsoft

As youngsters many editors started with windows movie maker. It was a good beginner software. But now its gone.

Windows Movie Maker, (the good one with the timeline) Where is it ? My nephew has been asking me for a good editor to edit his youtube vlogs for years now. Almost every month someone asks me for a good video editor on windows. But there is no default available in Windows, is there ? What is wrong with you guys? Why do make such stupid decisions like removing the best god damn feature from your “home” version of OS. probably the same idiots who wanted to remove MS Paint, when will you understand the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mantra. Do you not understand that we live in a post covid world and that everyone edits videos nowadays. Do you want to lose the little relevance that you have currently.  Do you not understand that we only use Office suite because we grew up using it and we don’t want to switch. Do you want the same thing to happen to Windows Desktop that happened to Windows Mobile. 

For decades your direct competitor Apple, down there in California have included a pretty good video editor for free. Millions of videos have been edited by normal home users, countless artists got their start on it. Meanwhile you guys went through a full entire generation of Windows without a default suitable video editor, which is now considered a necessity in any basic OS. 

What should I tell my 12 year old nephew. That he should buy adobe’s suite or Filmora. Or any other half baked freemium piece of crap. For God’s sake even Linux has free video editors. Do you fail to understand that the little loyalty people have to your product will be gone in a few more years, If they can’t use a “personal” computer for “personal” tasks. Do you not understand the value of defaults and making them consistently better ( ahem Internet Explorer). Is this what your decision making Product Owners’s do. Is this what you guys discuss in your daily standup scrums.

Seriously though some of my best memories on a Windows were recording and editing audio and video content. Now it seems there is no built in default way to do this. We want windows movie maker, we want timeline, we want templates for meme. 

Instead of inventing another worthless gadget like duo, please do your job and give us a good default video editor called Movie Maker. If you cant find a useful team then hire me. I am sure I can do a better job than half the people getting paid obscene salaries to make useless decisions. The current windows keeps the home average user at the least priority.

Please bring back movie maker. Do it now. Or I swear to Allah I will buy my nephew a Mac mini, and we will never look back.
