Bring back Webchnl and launch Webchnl2.0 soon
The Issue
Remembering Webchnl? You know the story! Webchnl (pronounced "web channel"; rendered in lowercase) was an online streaming service founded by Kal / snap and maintained by wakko. It was designed to host independent channels operated by users. The service ran from 2024 to 2026, across two iterations.
What Happened?
- On the night of May 13th, 2026, at approximately 10:03pm EST, webchnl received a takedown notice from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and had all of its services gradually suspended. The last channel to stop broadcasting was Whiplash FM, operational as late as 10:30pm EST.
- In the wake of this, several broadcasters had to migrate to other platforms and remove all WBD content as a temporary measure.
- The last known broadcasts were Mission Hill on DIJIT, Family Guy on Spark, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! on Toon Disney, The Cleveland Show on Skip, The Simpsons on Window TV and Whiplash FM's regular rotation.
- The cache died at 5:51pm on May 19th, 2026.
- On June 4, 2026, Webchnl's Discord server was locked after an attempted raid which later resulted in the closure of the platform's server on June 5, marking the end of webchnl. Finally, on June 9, what remained of the website was replaced by a chnl.forever image with the logo appearing in a spotlight.
- As of June 9, 2026, two channels remain broadcasting on the service's "rhine" servers. Those being MRSAT HD (which broadcasts a video of the titular character from SpongeBob SquarePants in a clip grabbing a nickel off the floor on loop) and the webchnl info channel.
Also What Happened? According to The Fate of Webchnl in 2026. by UnitedWorldMedia on DeviantArt stated: "Earlier this week, Webchnl, an independent streaming website that hosted indie TV channels by users, shut down indefinitely."
- "Webchnl was created by Kal and owned by Wakko of Oqua before the discontinuation. PuzzylPiece of DIJIT also contributed to Webchnl, hosting the Tropical Paradise 2026 Opening Ceremony on YouTube and Spark via Webchnl. It was home to a variety of channels like
- Whiplash
- FlashBAK
- Spark
- Quant
- Zén!th
- DIJIT
- Voltix
- Window TV
- Dotwave
- Object Central
- WYLP
- 2x2 English
- Toonbox
- Skip
- KasperTV
- Eel Channel
- Atlas
- DoneBetter
- MRSAT HD
- Placid
- Yub Network
- Deflect
- Jnime
- Biwi
- And a bunch more webchannels to count."
- "But then, on May 13th, 2026, David Zaslav's Warner Bros. Discovery filed a DMCA takedown notice against Webchnl, suspending the service. The team over there worked so hard to migrate to other platforms and remove WBD properties from Webchnl "as a temporary measure," until a raid attempt was discovered on Webchnl's Discord server on June 4, 2026, marking the end of Webchnl indefinitely."
- "The indefinite shutdown of Webchnl came one day before Elekta from ElektaMedia discontinued indefinitely on June 5, 2026. Some of the TV channels from Elekta like ENT Channel, ENT Family and Totalmusic, are migrated to the 40media Group's website."
- "Now, if you go to webchnl.com, the only content you can see is a "logo appearing in a spotlight," with the text reading "chnl.forever," meaning that Webchnl was fun while it lasted."
- "As of now, you can still watch Webchnl refugees, which are TV channels from the original Webchnl migrated to Nive, a new streaming service currently in pre-alpha stage by Bytedrain. Byte has worked so hard to migrate every channel from Webchnl to Nive from scratch."
- "Sadly, some big media corporations like Warner Bros. Discovery are doing extremely dirty to the indie television community recently. And this is why we need to respect to indie creators like us."
- "We would like to thank you for operating the service for 2 years, Webchnl."
- "chnl.forever."
Indie TV fans were disappointing that they want to bring back the free indie live-TV streaming website Webchnl as a successor called Webchnl 2.0, Webchnl 2.0 will have more channels that expands to other channels, as well as the addition of music video channels.
- They were going to add TVpass2.0 on Webchnl 2.0, which will be an add on to Webchnl where you can also watch more channels than TVpass.org did as well as music channels either.
Webchnl fans sign this petition to bring back Webchnl as a successor called Webchnl 2.0 and we are so happy to bring them back. We also want supporters to sign five signatures and then ten as well as more than ten signatures to bring back Webchnl so good luck and bring back Webchnl! #BringBackWebchnl #LaunchWebchnl2.0 #ComingSoon #Webchnl2.0 #BringBackTheIndieTVStreamingWebsite
