Bring Back The V8

Bring Back The V8
The Issue
In modern society, we are forced every to adapt to the new norm or be left behind. This is especially true in the world of cars. Throughout history, automobiles have been a staple in all cultures. As brands age, they gain a heritage and prestige.
As cars evolve over time they begin to take new shape and change. While change should be a welcome thing. There are certain things that should not change. One such thing is this immense push from gasoline engines to electric motors.
The most common argument for electric vehicles is that they are better for the environment. This, however, could not be further from the truth. For every ton (2,000lbs) of lithium mined in the ground, over 15,000 tons (30,000lbs) of emissions are emitted into the atmosphere (large mines for the lithium required have vehicles that produce nearly 5000HP and burn over 11,000lbs of deisel EVERY DAY. But unfortunately things do not stop there. EV cars need to charge just about every single day (compared to a gasoline vehicle refilling once every few weeks to a month depending on vehicle and driving habits). To understand just how bad this is, you must first understand that a coal plant powering a charging station will burn about 1 LB for every 10 miles of range charged into the Tesla. For a Tesla to charge 350 miles it must burn about 35 lbs of coal, one LB of burnt coal will yield 2.07 lbs of emissions into the atmosphere. This means that there are about 70 lbs of C02 being burnt and put into the atmosphere every single time a EV car with a standard range of 350 miles charges. Electric cars are only as strong as the fossil fuels that can power their batteries.
Secondly, there are cars and trucks on the road today that are driven every day that were produced over 60 years ago. Gasoline and diesel vehicles will last almost a persons lifetime. And as these vehicles break down and dilapidate, they can be recycled and built into something new. This will not be the case with EV cars and trucks because their batteries are non-renewable.
Lastly, gasoline automobiles have amassed a huge following. Let’s take a look at the Dodge Charger. Since its debut in 1969 the charger monochure has always been synonymous with freedom, the open road, patriotism, youth, and excitement. At the beginning, the Charger name was created to bring Dodge to the forefront of the new car market for the younger generation. However, recent events have shown that Dodge is willing to nearly scrap the charger and restart anew. The 2022 Charger is a all new electric vehicle that shares only one part with the charger; its badge. This new car has caused uproar in the car community and is a very controversial move for Dodge. This new ‘Charger’ is supposed to represent, green energy, and the mindless drone that comes with an EV.
This could not be further from what the dodge fan base wanted. Yes, it is true that the new ‘Charger’ has cool features like it’s aerodynamic front end and four wheel drive, those are just parlor tricks to make the driver think it is something cooler than it is.. a hollow shell of a car that used to have meaning and physically embodied the spirit of the American dream. As of the unveiling on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 the dodge brothers are turning in their grave because of what the company has become.
The on going trend for green energy is a great thing, but it is being gone about the wrong way. People need to focus their effort on something that works completely, and not something that just shifts the problem away from the spotlight.
