Bring back the original Roblox chat feature without face scans
Bring back the original Roblox chat feature without face scans
The Issue
As an avid user of ROBLOX, I have seen the platform evolve in many ways, some for the better and some for the worse. However, recent changes have raised significant concerns about privacy and user experience. ROBLOX has decided to implement a new face scanning feature to enable chat access on their platform—a move that feels intrusive and unnecessary.
ROBLOX has been making numerous changes lately that have impacted user experience, but this time, they have crossed a line. The idea of requiring individuals, especially children who constitute a large portion of ROBLOX's user base, to have their faces scanned just to use chat features is alarming. It brings up serious privacy issues and raises concerns about data security. How can we be sure that these facial scans won't find their way into databases of companies we don’t even know exist?
There are many users, like myself, who cherish the interconnectedness and the friendships built on ROBLOX through its chat features. Taking away this basic functionality unless we comply with invasive procedures is unfair and signals a disregard for the privacy of its users.
Instead of imposing face scans, ROBLOX should explore alternative methods to ensure user safety. Options such as enhanced moderation tools, better parental controls, or advanced algorithms designed to flag inappropriate behavior can be both effective and private ways to safeguard users without requiring personal biometric data.
Moreover, the implications of storing biometric information, especially when it involves minors, could have far-reaching consequences. Not only is there a risk of data breaches, but the ethical implications of storing such personal information are concerning. Users deserve transparency and choice when it comes to their personal information, especially on a platform largely inhabited by young individuals.
I call on ROBLOX to restore the original chat function without the need for invasive facial recognition and to prioritize user privacy. We, as users, should have the freedom to enjoy ROBLOX without the fear that our personal data is being misused or misunderstood.
Please join me in demanding that ROBLOX make user privacy a priority and halt the implementation of face scans for chat access. Sign this petition to urge ROBLOX to bring back the chat feature without compromising our privacy.
