The Issue

Since freshman year, we have eagerly awaited the chance to partake in the cherished tradition of the Sadie's formal dance at Watertown High School. Like many of our peers, we have looked forward to this special event, and now as upperclassmen, we find it disheartening that this year's dance has been canceled with no discussion or warning. Many girls have already invested in dresses and made exciting plans for this anticipated event. It's more than just a dance; it's an opportunity for juniors and seniors to foster lifelong memories and strengthen our ties within the school community.

For years, the Sadie's formal dance has been an integral part of our school culture, bringing students together for a night of fun, connection, and celebration with our fellow upperclassmen. It provides a unique chance for students to engage actively with their school environment, boosting morale and encouraging school spirit. At a time when academic pressures are high and students often feel overwhelmed, these traditions play an essential role in balancing school life with joyful experiences and stress relief.

The Sadie's dance is not merely a social event, but a tradition that underpins the essence of student participation and involvement at Watertown High School. Involvement in school events is crucial for developing social skills, fostering friendships, and nurturing a sense of belonging. This dance is especially significant, as it has historically promoted inclusivity and participation among students who might not typically engage in other school activities.

In reinstating the Sadie's dance, we not only uphold a beloved tradition but also demonstrate our commitment to preserving the vibrant student life that makes Watertown High School a special place for all its students. We ask the school administration to reconsider the decision and allow us to celebrate this tradition that has been eagerly anticipated by the students, particularly the juniors and seniors.

Join me in signing this petition to bring back the Sadie's formal dance to Watertown High School and continue a tradition that embodies school pride and student unity. Your support is crucial in helping us convince the school officials to revive an event dear to our hearts. Sign and share this petition to make a difference!
