Waitrose has a clear social and environmental responsibility to provide recycling facilities for the waste generated by its own packaging. For many years residents were able to use the recycling ‘Bring Site’ in the Ecclesall Road store’s car park. Although this facility was temporarily paused due to industrial action, the Council now wants to reopen it.  

Shamefully Waitrose is blocking its return!

By refusing to reinstate the recycling point, Waitrose is effectively diverting more waste into the City’s incinerator and burning items that could otherwise have been recycled. This is simply unacceptable. The alternative for those who want to do their bit is forcing residents to travel further afield to recycle their waste, increasing carbon emissions and undermining the environmental values many of us strive to uphold.

Customers and local residents want to act responsibly and recycle. As a major operator in the area, Waitrose has both the capacity and the obligation to support that commitment by providing accessible recycling facilities.

Reinstating these facilities would allow Waitrose to meaningfully contribute to Sheffield’s environmental goals while reaffirming its role as a responsible, community‑minded retailer. We call on Waitrose to act swiftly and we encourage everyone to add their voice by signing this petition.
