Bring back LPG in Australia

The issue

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a reliable petrol alternative that we make right here in Australia. The Howard Government had the right idea (you won't catch me saying that very often!) to incentivise conversions and availability. Apart from the energy independence using locally produced gas provides, it has countless other benefits - it burns cleaner, there's little loss of power, controlled injections mean there's less risk of issues like engine knock, just to name a few.

Successive governments have allowed it to wither and now that petrol and diesel are under threat, the hens have come home to roost. It's the kind of energy independence we desperately need right now.

I call upon the Australian and State/Territory governments to bring back LPG incentives - fast track subsidies for conversions, incentivise service stations to carry it, fund training to bring mechanics up to speed - whatever gets LPG into the hands of those who need it most.

The best time to do this was four years ago. The second best time is now.
