The Issue

We, the concerned families, community members, and residents of Bibb County, demand the immediate reinstatement of in-person visitation at Bibb County Jail.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has ended, virtual-only visits remain in place — cutting off physical connection between incarcerated individuals and their loved ones. This is not only unjust, it’s inhumane.

In-person visits matter because:

  • Human touch and eye contact promote mental and emotional health
  • Children need physical connection with their incarcerated parents
  • Families deserve to maintain bonds and stability through real presence
  • Virtual-only options disproportionately hurt the elderly and low-income families
  • Cutting off in-person visits makes rehabilitation harder, not easier

This policy benefits no one except jail contractors and video vendors. Meanwhile, families suffer, and inmates lose hope.

We call on Sheriff David Davis, Mayor Lester Miller, and the Bibb County Commission to:

Reinstate in-person visitation with proper safety measures

Offer both in-person and virtual visit options
Acknowledge the importance of family connection as part of rehabilitation

This is about dignity, healing, and justice.

Sign this petition to restore humanity inside Bibb County Jail.
