🦀 Bring Back Crazy Crab as the San Francisco Giants Mascot! 🦀

The Issue

Rehab the Crab

Crazy Crab wasn’t just a mascot; he was a moment in baseball history. Let’s make him part of our future.

Who Was Crazy Crab?

In 1984, the San Francisco Giants dared to try something different by introducing Crazy Crab, a spoof on traditional mascots. He was called the “anti-mascot” and fans were encouraged to boo him. Played by actor Wayne Doba in a big, goofy crab costume, Crazy Crab was the target of jeers, water balloons, hot dogs, and even playful tackles from enthusiastic players.

The reaction was chaotic, hilarious, and unforgettable.

Though Crazy Crab only spent a single season on the field, he became a cult icon among Giants fans. A mascot this infamous transformed into one that is now genuinely beloved. Decades later, fans are still hoping for his return.

Why We Want Crazy Crab Back
What began as a quirky marketing stunt is now a cherished part of Giants lore. Crazy Crab represents everything that makes being a fan fun—passion, humor, irreverence, and a standout team tradition. His legacy is alive in throwback merch, bobbleheads, and highlight reels, but it’s time for more than just memories.

Bringing Crazy Crab back can:

Reignite fan enthusiasm and evoke nostalgia
Add a one-of-a-kind personality to the ballpark experience
Celebrate the unique history of the Giants
Attract new fans who value quirky traditions
Unite generations of Giants fans through a shared legend
Mascots are supposed to make the game fun. Nobody captures that better than Crazy Crab.

What We’re Asking
We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the San Francisco Giants organization to bring back Crazy Crab. Whether as a full-time mascot, as an occasional in-game personality, or as part of a fan-engagement campaign, let him scuttle across the field again. Remind us of the joy, humor, and excitement that only baseball and the Giants can provide.

It's time for Crazy Crab to step out of the waves of history and make a triumphant return to Oracle Park.
