Who Was Crazy Crab?

In 1984, the San Francisco Giants dared to try something different by introducing Crazy Crab, a spoof on traditional mascots. He was called the “anti-mascot” and fans were encouraged to boo him. Played by actor Wayne Doba in a big, goofy crab costume, Crazy Crab was the target of jeers, water balloons, hot dogs, and even playful tackles from enthusiastic players.

The reaction was chaotic, hilarious, and unforgettable.

Though Crazy Crab only spent a single season on the field, he became a cult icon among Giants fans. A mascot this infamous transformed into one that is now genuinely beloved. Decades later, fans are still hoping for his return.

Why We Want Crazy Crab Back
