The Issue

On a personal level, BOOTS means a lot to me and not just to me. It matters deeply to LGBTQ+ members of the community, especially gay service members who have sacrificed their lives for a country that has historically rejected & outright hated them. That reality matters. It makes this story matter. And yes, it pisses me off that something so honest and necessary can be dismissed so easily. The Pink Marine brought to life by Greg Cope White and Andy Parker, this show became a true beacon for representation. Characters like Santos felt real to me, like someone I actually know. As a fellow Caribbean person, I’m Haitian and he’s Dominican, it was powerful to see that kind of cultural authenticity on screen. The intentional casting of Black women and the authentic depiction of Black love is something we rarely get to see done right, especially by a white creator which such level of care and integrity. So when Netflix canceled BOOTS on December 15th, it felt like an unjust blow, not just to the characters and stories audiences connected with, but to the cast and crew who poured their bodies, time, and talent into making something meaningful. Whatever the reason may be; politics, “viewership,” or corporate greed? The decision was unfair to them. BOOTS deserves many more seasons, not only for its storytelling and stellar cast, but for the people who finally felt seen. If Netflix won’t bring it back, another platform should. Stories like these matter. Bring BOOTS back in 2026. Sign and share this petition!
