My name is Maya-Illy Sayah, and I’m a student at Sir Robert Borden High School in Ottawa. I’m starting this petition because schools in both the OCDSB and OCSB have lost access to blue recycling bins after the company that used to handle them stopped. (That’s over 200 schools!)

Now, instead of being recycled, plastic bottles, cans, and other items are ending up in the garbage, or worse, tossed around the sidewalks and paths near our schools. For Canada’s capital city, this is embarrassing. Ottawa should be leading the way on sustainability, not falling behind.

Students deserve the chance to recycle at school. Blue bins aren’t just bins, they’re a way for us to learn good habits, take care of the planet, and prove that our city actually cares about young people and our future.

By signing this petition, you’re asking the Ottawa school boards and the City of Ottawa to work together to bring blue bins back to our schools. Every student should be able to recycle, cut down on waste, and be part of a cleaner, greener future.
