Bring Anime Movies to Nigeria
The Issue
The impact of Anime in territories beyond its origin is a conversation that has been ongoing for years. Over time we have witnessed this movement dominate pop culture across the world, it is with no doubt that this impact has extended to the shores of Africa. Being the most populous country in Africa, Nigeria houses some of the largest canvassers of Anime lovers . Budding fans have created communities all over the country expressing their love for the culture through Cosplay, Anime conventions and Anime merchandising.
Anime Grandeur which is one of the Anime communities in Nigeria- is a platform that brings together Anime lovers that span different generations of fans. A generation built their incessant love for Anime from The Big Three (Naruto, Bleach and One Piece) and most recently a new generation of Anime lovers who have a strong passion for modern franchises like Boku No Hero, Kimetsu No Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen. Even the OG anime like Dragon Ball & Rouroni Kenshin.
In recent times, Anime movie screening has also become a major way of fans supporting some of their favourite Anime creators from any where in the world. Despite having a large number of fans, Nigeria is yet to boast of its own Anime screening like other countries such as USA, UK, Canada and Australia. Other African countries like South Africa and Zambia have similarly had Anime screenings for passionate fans.
Franchises such as- Jujutsu Kaisen Film 0, Kimestu no Yaiba Mugen Train, Dragon Ball Super 2022, One Piece Film Red, Weathering with you to name a few have a strong followership in Nigeria and would be positively received by fans at the theatres.
In line with this, Anime Grandeur is charged with issuing a petition to humbly request for Nigerian Cinema outlets ( Filmhouse Nigeria, Genesis Cinemas & Silverbird Cinemas) to initiate conversations with Anime Distributors (TOHO Japan, TOEI, SONY) hence, forging a partnership that will aid in achieving the dreams of fervent watchers in this region.
We also urge all the Anime fans to sign this petition in order to create awareness and bring attention to the subject matter as much as possible! It’s time to see our anime movies at the theatres!
All updates through out this petition will be communicated via this platform and all our social media platforms.
