Bring an IMAX Theater to Kanpur Nagar
The Issue
Pvr inox support Kanpur Nagar is a massive economic and educational hub with a population of over 3 million people. We have a thriving metro network, premier institutions like IIT Kanpur, and a massive community of students, young professionals, and movie enthusiasts. Yet, despite being one of the largest cities in Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur does not have a single IMAX theater.
Currently, if a resident of Kanpur wants to experience major Hollywood spectacles or epic Indian cinematic releases in true IMAX format, they are forced to travel nearly 80 kilometers to Lucknow (to malls like Phoenix Palassio). This is unfair to Kanpur's moviegoers and represents a massive missed revenue opportunity for cinema operators.
Kanpur has the spending power, the demographic, and premium locations like Z Square Mall or the newly upgraded multiplex hubs that could easily support a premium large format screen.
We request PVR INOX Limited and major commercial real estate developers in Kanpur to recognize our city's potential, listen to the local community, and bring a certified IMAX auditorium to Kanpur Nagar.
Why Kanpur is Ready for IMAX
• Massive Premium Consumer Base: Kanpur is not just an industrial city; it is a rapidly growing urban economy. With thriving commercial zones, upscale neighborhoods (like Civil Lines and Swaroop Nagar), and thousands of corporate professionals, there is a massive population willing to pay premium ticket prices for a superior cinematic experience.
• Untapped Student Demographic: Kanpur is home to elite educational institutions like IIT Kanpur, HBTU, GSVM Medical College, and dozens of other universities. Students and young tech professionals are the biggest target audience for global IMAX-focused franchises like Marvel, DC, Christopher Nolan films, and epic Indian visual spectacles. Right now, this entire demographic is ignored.
• Loss of Revenue to Lucknow: Every time a major visual spectacle releases, hundreds of moviegoers from Kanpur spend money on train or highway travel, food, and shopping in Lucknow just to watch a movie in IMAX. PVR INOX is losing a massive local box-office market share to its own Lucknow properties simply because the infrastructure doesn't exist here yet.
• Perfect Infrastructure Synergy: With the Kanpur Metro now highly operational, connecting major parts of the city directly to premium commercial areas, traveling to a centralized flagship theater (like Z Square Mall or upcoming commercial hubs) is easier than ever.
By building an IMAX theater in Kanpur Nagar, cinema chains will capture an eager, untapped market of millions, ensuring housefull shows for global and domestic blockbusters alike. We urge the management to review this demand and invest in Kanpur's entertainment future!
