Keep Burger King out of the Lanes!

The Issue

So... This is an urgent request and needs to be submitted by 5pm TODAY (21/10/2015), unfortunately the council and related groups always leave it till the absolute last minute to make anything public. Sneaky buggers... They probably don't want us to protest!

Plans have been submitted and will be discussed for the building of ANOTHER Burger King in Brighton, on our wonderful East Street in the Lanes. on one of the last little roads left in the Lanes with locally owned restaurants and a bit of a real Brighton vibe... The council have decided, Brighton's lovely vibe now needs more corporate sponsors.

Do we agree with them or should we support the ready established, independent Burger provisioners at Martin's Burger & the Northern Lights, already resident around the street serving up far better nom noms? That's rhetorical... I know what you fellow Brightonians are thinking... Of course we should stop the potential monopolisation of a burger chain, they don't need another whopper.

- Why is this important? People will surely just choose the best burger...?
- In this instance, we believe the move to open more chain shops on East Street signals the beginning of the end on a irreparable slope of genericism, that sees our local elected council try ever so hard to turn our city centre into a carbon copy of every other British city, with more H&M's, more Topshops, more Burger King's and, ultimately, less of the Brighton we came here for ad love. Since the council semi-pedestrianised East Street (and practically cut a local venue's terrace in half with the alternative road (without asking nicely)), they have been on an aggressive 'anti-local/independent-business' drive, first (with proven fake evidence supplied by the police) against the Northern Lights, who'd objected to the road diversions, now against those restaurants who don't fit their ideal American mall image.

Get behind us again Brighton... There is more to come, this is all going public this time, I'm tired of the council sneaking things under us.
