Save the factory farmed chickens!

The issue

Specific goals/changes: Give the animals in factory farming their freedom back by enlarging their cages or taking the cages away completely.

Who is receiving it? Why? The general public can help by making small changes such as not purchasing factory farmed products and/or cutting back on other animal products. However, the Department of Agriculture can help the most because they can change the animal cruelty law so the factory farmed animals can have bigger or no cages as part of the law.

Clear reasons to sign: Animals raised for food in Australia have been deliberately excluded from animal cruelty laws that protect cats and dogs – despite showing the exact same ability to suffer.

Sensitive and intelligent mother pigs can be locked up in crates barley bigger than their bodies for most of their pregnancy. Pregnant pigs are forced to give birth in a farrowing crate which restricts their movement even more and denies them the strong maternal instinct to nurture or interact with their young.

Laying hens suffer their entire lives in battery cages where they can’t even stretch their wings. Day old chicks often have parts of their beaks painfully severed off in an attempt to mitigate cabalism brought on by the stress and unnatural confinement of battery hens.
