Good morning Mrs. Muñoz,
Thank you for your communication.
Please be advised on Monday, February 8th the Brickell Key Master Association issued a Memorandum of clarification for the Village Green and South Lawn usage for residents, please see attached. We are hopeful this answers all of the concerns.
Thank you.
Best regards,
MEMORANDUM FROM BKMA
Good morning,
We hope you and your team are well.
Please provide the following information to all Association Members:
We understand there has been some confusion in recent days over the use of the Village Green and the South Lawn on Brickell Key. As such, we wanted to take this opportunity to proactively address the issue, as we have received several inquiries from residents and the greater community that indicate some misconceptions and miscommunications needing clarification.
The South Lawn is private property. As has always been the case, the South Lawn can be reserved for approved small gatherings and events, provided those events and their organizers meet the appropriate criteria. Those interested in reserving the South Lawn must, as always, go through the proper protocols via BKMA, including providing certain information for the benefit of the property owner. If the use is approved, the group will be required to follow certain rules, provided by BKMA.
That said, the South Lawn property owner (Swire Properties) is cognizant of our residents’ increased requests to use the South Lawn for organized sports and/or trainings, due to the reality of indoor activities being limited due to COVID-19, and is currently considering the implications of allowing organized sports and/or trainings on the South Lawn as a result of this unique demand due to the pandemic. This will be discussed at the next BKMA Board meeting on 26 February and we will update you, our community, shortly thereafter.
In recent months, BKMA has introduced a new security company, which has been enforcing the South Lawn’s policies for the safety of all Brickell Key residents. Unfortunately, there have been some incidents where security has had to call the police to enforce those rules.
The Village Green functions slightly differently – it is a Brickell Key community venue for the use of its Association Members and their guests. The only organized events or activities which are permitted at the Village Green are those sponsored by BKMA (which have been postponed since March 2020). However, Brickell Key Association Members are permitted to use the Village Green for recreational use. Currently, organized team or sports activities are not permitted in the Village Green or at the South Lawn, a restriction which has been in place for over twenty years.
As an important reminder and something to consider when using any public spaces, the Centers for Disease Control has put out warnings concerning large gatherings and do not recommend close contact with individuals that do not reside in the same household to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We ask all members abide by CDC advice and the notices BKMA has published when using the Village Green or other shared spaces.
We also wanted to take this opportunity to remind the community that all guests are required to park in the main Carpark.
We thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our residents safe and healthy. Please contact the BKMA office with any questions or to learn more about reserving green space, as above.
Your attention and cooperation disseminating this information to all Association Members is greatly appreciated to ensure there are no surprises or confusion in the coming days.
Please stay well and safe.
