Brickell is in dire need of an official dog park to cater to its growing number of residents with furry companions. Unlike neighboring areas such as Downtown, Coconut Grove, and Key Biscayne, Brickell lacks designated off-leash areas that are safe, convenient, and spacious enough to accommodate numerous dogs. Despite previous discussions with Commissioners regarding potential locations, the current options fall short in terms of maintenance and amenities. For instance, the existing small space lacks essential features like water fountains, benches, shade structures, and secure fencing to prevent pets and balls from escaping.

This shortage of suitable facilities forces dog owners to resort to unofficial areas like the Icon lawn, where off-leash activities are prohibited. The situation is exacerbated by the ongoing construction at Southside Park, which has not only eliminated a portion of the lawn but also poses safety risks to both humans and pets due to inadequate protective measures and the looming shadow cast by a new skyscraper.

As Brickell's population continues to swell, it becomes imperative for Miami city officials and developers to prioritize the creation of safe and well-equipped playgrounds for children and dog parks. These spaces should include essential amenities such as water, shade, and adequate parking.

Brickell residents contribute significantly to the community through taxes and other means, and they rightfully deserve access to high-quality public spaces. If you stand behind this cause, please consider signing and sharing this petition to help turn it into a reality.

Thank you sincerely for your support!
