Break Up the Monopoly Held by Macy's Inc.

The Issue

As an employee of Macy's, I have seen firsthand the stranglehold that the Macy's-Bloomingdale's-Bluemercury conglomerate has on the retail sector. We, the workers on the ground, suffer the most from this monopoly. Despite generating significant revenue from Black Friday and other sales, the lion's share of our earnings go towards maintaining basic infrastructure, such as elevators, leaving little room for improving employee working conditions or job security. Additionally, the allotted hours that we, as employees, are able to work during the week are minimal, contributing to financial instability for many of us.

That being said, I will get to the point. It is no secret that corporate greed is destroying this company, and if immediate action is not taken, the chain could face bankruptcy which would mean the end of one of New York City's most beloved holiday traditions - the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - which I have participated in.

Breaking up this monopoly will not only benefit us, the employees but will also boost the larger economy. Circulation of wealth and power across different companies within the retail sector will encourage healthy competition. This move could help mitigate the risk of bankruptcy as well as a massive economic recession and protect our jobs, giving us the security we deserve.

Let us protect the rights of employees and foster a healthy economy. Sign this petition to demand a break-up of the Macy's-Bloomingdale's-Bluemercury monopoly and usher in an era of economic vigor and fairness.
