To our supporters Our video footage shows little improvement of the conditions in which the sun bears are kept. Scorpion highlighted the plight of the sun bears in Bandung Zoo since last year. Following public outcry earlier this year, Minister of Environment and Forestry told media that there was a need to standardise captive animal care in Indonesia through national legislation. Thank you for promising to take this much-needed step to protect animal welfare. In a video footage captured on 3, March, 2017, Scorpion has provided evidence that the conditions in which the sun bears are kept in Bandung Zoo have not improved much. The enclosure in which the bears are kept have not changed significantly. There appears to be a thin layer of soil which has been applied to the concrete and two-thirds of the water has been removed from the lower layer of the enclosure, but there is little else to improve the well-being of the sun bears. The sun bears continue to be kept in filthy conditions, with inadequate vegetation. The enclosure is very tight, with limited space to roam and exercise. Please, Minister, no animals should be kept in such conditions. Animals kept in zoos need much more than food. These animals need stimulation, space and as many features of their natural habitat as possible. Please take a stand for these animals. You have the power to bring sustainable change. Please act quickly to improve animal welfare in Indonesian zoos. Thank you
