Prioritize Braintree Remote Learning

The Issue

The Braintree School Committee is attempting to force all Braintree Public School Students to return to full-time in-person school following their return to school in 2021.

Forcing kids to go to school in-person creates a large gap of opportunity, where students without the facilities to attend school safely are disadvantaged. The solution is to continue to provide students with the option of stay fully remote or going back full time. Students need the decision because some still feel unsafe going to school. One of the greatest disadvantages created by forcing everyone back full time, is that there is no transportation provided for students that can not get to the schools on their own. A large percent of the districts students rely on their provided transportation, and the High School is still not being provided with such means.

Currently there is 48% of the high school students that are still fully remote. That is almost half of Braintree Highs population that does not feel safe in the building.

We also need to be fighting for the fully-remote students to be provided with the same quality education as the students that attend school in-person. Full-remote students are at a disadvantage with their current learning situation, and it would be best if they can get full hour sessions with their teachers to be given the same resources as them. Although these students do not feel safe to be in person, it is still necessary that they get the opportunity to talk to the teachers other than through email.
