I called Congressman Brad Sherman’s San Fernando Valley office on May 16th. I spoke with a member of his staff. I told the staff member who I was, and brought up this campaign. After my introduction, I proceeded to bring up the Farm Bill, along with Representative King’s Amendment. I told the staff member if Congressman Brad Sherman votes Nay on the Farm Bill, I would declare victory on this petition and make sure to let all supporters of this campaign know that Congressman Brad Sherman was among those who opposed the Farm Bill. The King Amendment could have eliminated both state and local laws protecting animals. This would set back what little protection the pigs, as well as other animals that are victims of factory farming, have. One of many hideous examples is protecting pigs from cages that prevent them from being able to turn around. In today’s political climate, we not only need to fight for more protection and oversight, but we also need to defend what is already in place.
I thank each and every one of you. So many people contributed to this campaign. We all played a role in not only letting Congressman Brad Sherman hear us, but thousands of others as well. We have the power. Unfortunately, most of the public doesn’t use the power we have. Educating people about what the pigs are subjected to in factory farming is how, eventually, this horror show will end. This campaign is only one of many. Please continue to be engaged. For those of you who want to give water to the pigs, contact The Save Movement and find out what is available in your area. I gave up eating meat years ago. It really isn’t a struggle to live on a plant-based diet these days. Please remember that the choices you make as consumers have a huge impact on the lives of these poor pigs. This campaign consisted of vegetarians, vegans, meat eaters, and people somewhere in between. Where we all agree is that abuse shouldn’t be lawful. Abuse comes in many forms. This fight will continue on until the abuse stops.
Thank you Congressman Brad Sherman for standing up for pigs, and many other animals by voting against the Farm Bill. Please continue your stance when it comes to Animal Rights.
