Colder Months

We are approaching the colder months. The pigs will be piled on the backs of trucks exposed to the open air and cold temperatures. They will be driven in from out of state. As I have said before, they will not have access to food or water. I was told when I was in front of the Farmer John Slaughterhouse, the only time the pigs will see the sky and be exposed to the open air is on their way to the slaughterhouse.
There so many studies that have shown how incredibly intelligent pigs are. The pigs exhibit bias, and display both optimism and pessimism. They can problem solve and even put together puzzles. If you watch them play and interact with each other, they are similar to dogs in many ways. There is so much information available about pigs. It’s not that I believe that if they weren’t intelligent they would be deserving of this vile treatment. No animal deserves to suffer at the hands of humans. It’s just that their intelligence makes them very aware. They not only suffer physically, but psychologically as well.
From the outside looking in, it’s such a dark cycle. The pigs are subjected to torture, an immoral industry continues to profit, and the consumers suffer from health complications as a result of the product. My personal views are I am completely against killing the pigs. As long as there are people consuming pork products, these companies will continue operating. I’ve already shared that I do not eat meat. I understand what people choose to eat is their personal choice. Regardless of what your personal choices are as far as food, we can all agree, that it’s time to change the way the pigs are treated. Animal abuse can never be justified.
I can’t thank you all enough. I will post an update after I call the Congressman’s staff on October 2.
