"Dear Rural City of Wangaratta,

We, the undersigned, protest against the offensive signage recently erected by Vicroads which welcomes people to Yorta Yorta country at Everton. There is also signage on Wangandary Road which has been in place for too many years, and recent signage at Chiltern in the Indigo Shire. The Bpangerang have been recognized as the original inhabitants of these areas by local landholders since settlement and these areas are proudly recognized as Bpangerang country by the Wangaratta community. The signs are an insult to the great efforts of Bpangerang elders, Uncle Eddie Kneebone, Uncle Wally Cooper, Uncle Sandy Atkinson, and Uncle Freddie Dowling, to build positive relationships with the wider Wangaratta community. We ask that the council of the Rural City of Wangaratta take up this issue with Vicroads and negotiate to have the signs removed and replaced with "Welcome to Bpangerang country." Thank you.
