The issue

We, the undersigned DJ’s, producers, promoters and punters of the Western Australian music scene, along with the Free People of the World urgently call for the immediate cancellation of the upcoming Freaks & Beats Festival at Quarry Farm, Whitby WA.

We demand the venue terminate all contracts with performers who are publicly documented as investing in and profiting from the cultural export and art washing of Israel, who has been found by the United Nations to be conducting international crimes, including war crimes and acts constituting apartheid and genocide.

Why this is important:

Quarry Farm is a  Western Australian venue that enjoys public support and operates within a community that values human rights, dignity, and the rule of law.

The performers headlining the Freaks & Beats event, Infected Mushroom and Captain Hook, have a documented history of actions that support these illegal structures.

Infected Mushroom & Captain Hook act as Cultural Ambassadors, ‘Art-Washing’ genocide, apartheid and illegal occupation.

Infected Mushroom make donations to the Israeli fundraising platform ‘Israel Gives’ who then stream funding to the Israeli Defence Force and to  the civilian militias of illegal settlements.

Infected Mushroom & Captain Hook play events in illegal settlements such as Modi'in Illit, Kfar Hanokdim & Jerusalem —settlements deemed illegal under international law.

Infected Mushroom & Captain Hook have failed to meet the demands of the Palestinian BDS and fit the critieria for boycott.

Each of these claims are widely recognised as integral to systems of apartheid and genocide—Quarry Farm and Twighlight Productions are directly contributing to ‘normalising’ these atrocities and profiting from them.

This is not merely a political issue; it is a profound moral and legal imperative. Australia is a signatory to both the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to the Fourth Geneva Convention, relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War  and other international treaties that obligate states—and by extension, their public institutions and Australian businesses have a duty to ensure their operations do not contribute to, or benefit from, acts that constitute genocide.

Providing a platform and financial reward to individuals who materially enable severe human rights violations crosses a clear ethical line.

Our Demands:

For Quarry Farm, Whitby Western Auastralia & Twilight Productions, Western Australia: Immediately cancel this performances by Infected Mushroom & Captain Hook, adopt a clear, public ethical booking policy. This policy must refuse to platform artists who fail to meet the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment & Sanction demands.

We demand Quarry Farm & Twilight Productions uphold your social license by aligning with WA’s Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and Australia's commitments to international law.

For the WA Government: The Premier and relevant ministers must issue a public statement condemning the use of WA's cultural venues to whitewash ("artwash") war crimes and crimes against humanity. Publicly funded venues must reflect the state’s commitment to human rights as enshrined in Australia’s Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act 2002.

For the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale: The Mayor must ensure that council-owned or supported venues adhere to ethical standards that reject partnerships with individuals who profit from apartheid and genocide, upholding the city's professed values of inclusivity and justice.
By signing this petition, you are:

Standing up for the fundamental human rights of all people.
Defending the integrity of WA’s cultural institutions from being used as tools for propaganda.
Sending a powerful message that West Australians will not be silent spectators to atrocities, and we will not allow our stages to be used to normalise them.
Supporting a cultural boycott, a historically recognised form of non-violent protest, to pressure for change.

We urge you to act ethically and cancel this event. Do not make our community complicit.

We provide this information to ensure everyone can make a fully informed decision regarding their attendance and support.
